Millgrain

Milgrain

Milgrain(beaded detailing) is a decorative technique that strings together small round beads at regular intervals. The rows of beads finely reflect light, adding an elegant brilliance and an antique charm to jewelry. The name derives from "mil," meaning thousand, and is said to symbolize good fortune, evoking images of fertility, longevity, and eternity. This technique became popular in Europe from the late 19th to early 20th century. At that time, skilled artisans stamped each bead individually using a special tool called a mil-tangane. Today, advances in casting technology allow for consistent reproduction of uniform beads, making milgrain widely used in everyday jewelry.
